General thoughts on pursuing a Customer Success certification to help with an experienced tech professional looking to move into a CSM role? Is there one of the certs that would carry more weight or help bolster a strong resume with transferrable skills but no direct CSM position experience?

    • Great question, Jason! I would say, in my experience, CS leaders (hiring managers) are not looking for specific certifications but I don’t think any one of these would hurt, especially if you’re coming from a different type of role, to give you a better sense of how your own skills might transfer and what’s expected of a CSM. You’d be surprised how many people actually make similar transitions from other professional roles into customer success, which means CS leaders are often looking for the softer skills like exemplary communication skills, patience, empathy, and flexibility, some technical know-how, time management. We’re actually in the process of writing an article on this exact topic with other leaders in the space, so definitely subscribe to the blog (top right of any blog page) so you can stay in the loop.

In the meantime, I highly recommend checking out this article on SuccessHacker’s OUTCOMES Community: https://www.customersuccess.community/posts/key-skills-and-traits-every-customer-success-manager-should-have — and also joining that community to start networking with other CS professionals.
